Eating my way through Seattle
I had a lovely long weekend in Seattle for a friend’s wedding. Like a good little vegan, I made sure to hit up many vegan cafes during the trip and had a great tweet-up with some awesome vegans, one of which was a recipe tester for Blissful Bites.
First up was Thrive. I’m in love with this place. They have cooking programs and a real nice community. The food is clean, fresh, healthy, tasty, organic, and just my style. Not too salty or garlicky, just the right amount of flavor and seasonings, not too much oil or sugar. My best friend who happened to be in town visiting her boyfriend/family and I went and tried 3 different bowls, the awaken, oh my samurai, and the hungry-no-more salad. I really wish I would have saved room for a smoothie or dessert because they looked heavenly! Maybe on the way to the airport I will stop in for a smoothie! Then my friend got her hair cut and I got a wash, blow-dry and bang trim. It was an Aveda salon and was amazing. Unfortunately the stylist cut my bangs WAY too short, but thankfully hair grows!
We met her family at the park after stopping in to Mighty-O donuts, the only organic vegan donut shop that I know of. Since I’m going out of the country and will be living on rice and vegetables for 3 months I’ve decided to let myself splurge this last week in the US and eat whatever I want. So, of course I had to help myself to 3, yes 3, donuts. I ran around the park, played on the merry-go-round and did some swinging to work off some of those calories.
Saturday was brunch at Cafe Flora with Heather and Danica of Soundly Vegan, Helen of VegTastic and my fellow tweeter Molly. Do check out their delicious blogs!! Brunch was good, they did their tofu scramble well though it did have a lot of oil. They have a honey-free, sugar-free chai which I had as a latte with almond milk. Yum! We talked about vegan stuff, what’s wrong with the world, and food. It’s funny how you put vegans together and that is what you end up talking about the whole time! It was so nice to meet you all!!
Saturday night was my friend Marissa’s wedding at the Washington Park Arboretum. It was so cold and cloudy during the day, so I prayed it would not rain on her wedding. And it didn’t. And I had something to eat thankfully. Overall I was really homesick and didn’t know anyone. Tomorrow I’m off to Asia for 3 months so this trip prepped me to be away from my friends for a long time!
In other news, if you didn’t notice I have a new partner who is going to help me blog while I’m gone in Asia. So you’ll have posts from Meg Claire and I’ll be keeping a travel log of my trip. Keep an eye out for that!! OMG I leave tomorrow for Japan.
Safe journey! I can't wait to for all the travel logs.
