This weekend was absolutely amazing and we had the This weekend was absolutely amazing and we had the most perfect weather. Yes I believe that getting outside with vitamin D and fresh air is super important when you spend most your days inside. I got to see friends I haven’t seen in over 2 months. When we were in close proximity I wore my mask to protect them because they are older. When we had our picnic I sat over 2 meters away from them. Then when we got the beach the wind was blowing so much there was no way possible to transmit or absorb enough virus particles if they were even present. We sat a good distance away from each other and soaked up the sun. Then I went hiking to a castle and got a tour from a new Portuguese friend. There is a middle ground when it comes to navigating life during coronavirus. It’s not black and white. You can take precautions for the safety of others while living your life. It’s not hard. There’s no need to be extremists and not take common sense precautions. Was able to pick up more hours at my side hustle job and qualified for unemployment which was a surprise! I’ve been working out every day and feel really good in my body. As an extrovert I’m really missing my friends, seeing smiling faces at my favorite vegan restaurants, going on dates, and general human contact and touch. I’m thankfully I have close neighbors to chat with but that gives me the very basic level of interaction I need to not fully go insane. Their animals are comforting too. How are you doing? I do see a light at the end of the tunnel and I’m trying to stay optimistic. But this shit ain’t easy. Now is not the time to freak out and create dread about a future we can’t predict. So be still. You don’t need to stock up on dried goods and toilet paper. Yesterday I got to experience my first Carnaval!! Yesterday I got to experience my first Carnaval!! We took a trip to Sesimbra, which is a cute little beach town south of Lisbon with great street art and one of the best Carnaval parades. It was awesome and not too crowded. It was interesting to see the costumes, some teenagers were barely wearing anything and it got me thinking of how people were losing their shit because of the super bowl halftime show (and how puritanical Americans are!!). They would have flipped. Different cultures, more body acceptance, less policing of women’s bodies!! So glad I don’t live in the US anymore. It’s a pretty good representation of my year: vegan food, activism, travel, friends, turning 40 and my dad who I lost. It was a pretty okay year but I don’t have anything profound to say. 2019 kind of flew by amiright??!! Turning 40 and then losing a parent was not easy. That consumed much of the 2nd half of the year and left me with more anxiety than I’ve ever experienced before. I’m just trucking along trying to stay positive and blissful through all the muck. I’m hoping 2020 allows me to find a new home in Portugal and a new direction in life. I’m ready to settle down, make a home, continue to grow and learn and share my gifts with the world.
