French Meadows Macrobiotic Summer Camp

I wanted to tell you about this vegan macro thing that I do every year. It’s a summer camp/conference that happens every July (for 50 years now!) at the Tahoe National Forest in Northern California and it is super fun and educational. Teachers from all over the world come to teach and The Blissful Chef is on the roster this year teaching about seasonal cooking. Look at this amazing list of speakers! So many classes to choose from and cooking classes too! Also learn yoga, qi gong, do-in, shiatsu and other healing modalities. Surrounding the camp is a lovely stream and within a short drive is a huge reservoir where we go swimming. If you love to hike there is an 8 mile round-trip hike to a beautiful waterfall. You can see that in my photos below. I would love for you to join me!

This year’s camp is Saturday, July 17th to Sunday, July 25th. All your meals are prepared for you on an open flame, the day begins with yoga or qi gong, following classes on all types of subjects and fun activities in the evening. There’s even a kids camp! One year I volunteered in the kids camp and it is a blast for them too.

So, you may be thinking: CAMPING!?! A week without electricity, running water, and internet!?! Let me tell you, it’s incredible. I had never been camping before I started going to French Meadows 5 years ago and I thought there was no way I could go without my hairdryer for a week. Well, I was wrong! This is sort of luxury camping since your food is provided, there are little outhouses surrounding the camp ground, and they set up shower stalls (just bring your solar shower). Being away from the fast-paced world, electrical wires and EMFs, having delicious meals prepared for me, being surrounded by nature and all my loving friends is just what I need and crave each year.

If you would like to join me and have the most amazing time ever please contact Carl and be sure to tell him that The Blissful Chef sent you! Sign-up by May 1st and get 10% off. If you can’t come for the whole camp, try to come for as long as you can. It’s SO worth it. I’ll be driving from Los Angeles and may be able to pick up a person or two at the Sacramento Airport. There are shuttles and many people driving in throughout the week so you should have no problem getting to the campsite (just talk to Carl and he will help figure it out).

Hope to see you there!

  1. This sounds very relaxing! It would be hard for me to swing this year because I have two little ones but I’ll keep it bookmarked- it is less than 100 miles from my house!
