Hi friends in fitness! Just wanted to touch base and tell you about my weekend. Boy did I eat (and work out lol) and have a good time! It was my birthday weekend so I had a good excuse. Thankfully, I am now back on track with my diet and gearing up for a week in Portland where I will be tempted by all kinds of yummy food. Yikes!
How was your weekend? Did you have any fun workouts?
My birthday was Monday and I started celebrating on Sunday by doing my usual yoga class, then headed to Mother’s Cafe with my roommate for brunch. I had never eaten their brunch, and though I think their food is pretty average I was really craving some pancakes. I went with the tofu migas (bland) and added one blueberry oatmeal pancake on the side. The pancake was really good and if I was to go back (after the competition in July) that’s what I will get (but a bigger stack!).
The evening was spent having quality time with Austin. It was a beautiful day so we headed to Monkey’s Nest for a tea/coffee date and ran into my old friend’s boyfriend who was playing in a band there. Turns out he’s a marathon runner so he and Austin hit it off and talked running. As we sat on the patio we noticed a sushi place across the street. I love veggie sushi but Austin doesn’t care for it. But since it was MY birthday he went along with it. Roll On Sushi Diner only has a few veganizable rolls but we were very pleased with them. The service was top notch. Not sure we will go again since they aren’t many choices for us vegans, but I bet they would make us some special rolls if we asked.
On Monday, my actual birthday, I started the day off hitting the gym and training legs with Austin. You didn’t think I would skip a workout just because it was my birthday did you? I can finally start to see some muscle definition in my legs, but most of it is hidden under a layer of fat. Like many woman I hold all my body fat in my butt and thighs. A part of me believes that my body shape is my body shape and I will never be able to get the legs and ass I want. Then another part of me wants to believe that I can do anything I set my mind to with enough perseverance and dedication. My bottom half has been the slowest to respond to all the work I’ve put in so it can be frustrating. But nothing is going to stop me from trying!
Then in the evening I had a rock climbing birthday party. Many of my friends had never rock climbed before and they had a ton of fun! Everyone was complaining about sore forearms the next day lol. Thanks to Elana and John who BOTH surprised me with the vegan carrot cake I wanted from The Lunchbox Bunch. It was yummy!! I hadn’t had a dessert in over a month so you know I splurged and had some birthday cake.
My friend Sarah’s son loved it so much he wants to take rock climbing classes! Kids have no fear and make the most adventurous climbers. Have you been rock climbing before? I highly recommend trying it out at an inside rock gym! It is such a good workout.
IN OTHER NEWS!! Austin is sponsoring me in my first bikini competition. I will write an in-depth post about that this weekend. I also started a new YouTube channel that will be all about fitness, vlogging about my contest preparation, the kinds of workouts I’m doing, and cooking videos showing you some of the things I’m eating! Please head over there and subscribe 🙂 There are already a few sample videos of the HIIT training I do with Chad at Beyond Fit. And you’ll find a demo of some of the squat and leg moves I do in the gym. Check it out yo!
