Cooking Tool of the Month – Microplane

The month is not over so I offer you one more recipe featuring our Cooking Tool of the Month, the Microplane zester! Today’s guest post comes from Jackie at Vegan Yack Attack. I just love her blog and photography! When she posted a photo of this smoothie I just had to know what was in it!

When I first started cooking at home more often and checking out new recipes, I sometimes got so anxious over the seemingly smallest of issues. One of those issues was whenever I saw that I needed zest in a recipe; I’d look at my aged, “multi-use” grater with disdain, knowing that it would take ages to get even a pinch of zest out of it. But, the first cooking class I ever took opened my eyes to a brand new world, where zesting citrus took seconds and was nearly effortless. That world is the one where there is a Microplane; I had to buy one that night! Ever since then, adding zest to anything has been utterly enjoyable. I love it!

Enjoy this summer superfood-packed smoothie!

When she’s not busy dreaming up delicious recipes for her blog, Vegan Yack Attack, Jackie spends her time scouring Southern California for new vegan eateries. Yes, she is that friend that breaks out the camera before indulging in every course and shares it later on. Even though food and photography take up most of her days, she can also be seen frequenting Disneyland, hiking, gardening and doing almost any DIY activities you can imagine; or at least thinking about it.

Another one of her favorite recipes using the Microplane are these Berry-filled Banana Cupcakes with Lemon Coconut Frosting. Yum!

  1. I just don't see anyone thinks a smoothie is healthy that is loaded with sugar,  Sugar is the number one cause of all disease,  this one has not one but 2 bananas That's just crazy

    • It has no sugar in the recipe. Bananas are fruit and have natural sugar, which unless you are seriously diabetic, is the good kind of sugar. Fruit sugar is not the same as refined sugar in the least. Don’t make smoothies if you don’t want to have natural sugar in your diet.

  2. I am now following Microplanes!

  3. Superbly illnaiumting data here, thanks!
