A New Way to Be Green – People Towels

Category: My Blog Comments: 23 comments Tags:

I first learned about People Towels from my friend Whitney and her blog Eco-VeganGal. She wears her towel hooked to her purse so it’s always with her. I’m kind of obsessive like her about being green and creating the least amount of waste possible. I take my own utensils and containers with me everywhere, so having my own little towel completed the package. I use my People Towel instead of paper towels in public bathrooms, but I also use it as a napkin in restaurants that use paper napkins instead of cloth. So I’m saving trees all over the place! And, they are made with organic cotton! This makes me very happy! Definitely get the 3 or 5 pack, so you have a clean towel always available.

From their website:

The Current Situation

The use of disposable paper towels is having a devastating impact on the environment.  Some of the facts about paper towel consumption and its impact are:

  • To make one ton of paper towels, 17 trees and 20,000 gallons of water are polluted.
  • Every day, over 3,000 tons of paper towel waste is produced in the US alone.
  • Decomposing paper towels produce methane gas, a leading cause of global warming.
  • The average person uses 2,400 – 3,000 paper towels at work, in a given year.

Every Eco-diva & dude should have a set of People Towels! Enter the giveaway for your chance to win a 3 pack of your choice (retail $21).

Ok… so I learned about people towels from my sister-in-law… she’s knows I’m a fanatic when it comes to reducing and reusing! Anyway, my pants would benefit greatly from having a set of “People Towels” as I don’t ever take a paper towel after washing my hands!! I do a shake of the hands and a quick wipe on my pants!! AND while I’m not one for disposable products… I am not a slob… so I do– when I forget to pack a cloth napkin– use paper napkins when out at a restaurant. I totally need these!! 😉

SO… I’ve fanned you on FB… thanks for contacting me! I’m a Fan of People Towels on FB… and darn, I’m just not a Twitter kind of girl… BUT… I do have a blog dedicated to all of the little bits that I do… points aside… it’s something to blog about 🙂

    I guess that gives me a total of…. 5 points. Oooohh… that’s my lucky number!! 😉

Thanks for the information on this product. I just placed my first order (set of 5) and can’t wait til they get to me. A great alternative to paper napkins and since the designs are so hip, my kids will use them too 🙂

These would totally be awesome to take everywhere instead of using paper towels 98% of the time in restrooms at work, school and in public!

    5 entries 🙂

Grr I just wrote a big response and my internet went out! So sorry if this seems a little half assed =/.

I always wipe my hands off on my pants after washing them in a public restroom because I don’t like the hand dryers, but I don’t want to use the paper towels. But I work (I’m embarrassed to say) in the fast food industry so I’m guilty of using tons of paper towels there because we have to wash our hands so much for food safety and I can’t just wipe my hands off on my pants there because that’d be hardcore cross contamination. So these people towels would help me out a lot there and everywhere else I go of course.

    I’ve got 5 of the 7 entries.. I don’t have a twitter.

Also, I was wondering if you have any good hankerchiefs you could recommend? I’ve been looking for a good one to order so I can always have one with me. I wouldn’t want to blow my nose in the people towel and dry my hands on it!

these are so great. i have become fascinated with how changing my diet has seemed to change my mindset and outlook on the world we live in. we just ditched ziploc bags, and paper towels are next. we have 3 more rolls left in the cupboard and i plan on them being the last ones we buy. i’ve already purchased dish towels for the kitchen. these would be great to take on the go. i didn’t even think about taking something with me. and i love the idea of using them instead of paper napkins as well. we would benefit from these because it would be a good reminder to us and a great example to others that simple little things really can make a big difference. thanks so much for letting us know about such great products

I would benefit from People Towels mainly by saving the wasted paper towels I use at work. I use cloth everything else and have also recently switched to handkerchiefs versus tissues too.

    3. I would love to have a set of people towels. i’ve got 4 critters here and well they might turn into “dog and cat” towels but we need cleaning-up supplies and i really hate using up so many paper towels.

What a cool idea! I hate using the paper towels and actually bring recycled towels with me to work and bring my own to the potty .Not as good as these towels but at least they are recycled. This would be another way for co-workers etc. to think I am even more bizarre! Love it.

All extra credit has been completed!

    Christy,

Leave it to you to find these amazing little lifesavers! I always feel so guilty using disposable paper towels and napkins, especially being a mom of a 4year old! When we’re out, I’m constantly washing our hands and wiping his mouth, so to have this in my purse would be so incredibly convenient and save so many disposable paper products!!

    LOVE IT!

And of course being the mom of 7, I’ve done all 7 🙂 wish me luck?

  • I can’t enter your giveaway, because I’m a lowly Canadian 😉 but I just wanted to comment on what a great, and simple, idea this is! Thanks for posting!

I recently stopped buying paper towels and bought a couple of small hand towels instead, to keep around the kitchen, so I’m trying! These would really help me out.

I did the 1st 3, and I follow you on Twitter and tweeted (@tanyatheviolist).

And I now follow PeopleTowels on Twitter too, so I got the 1st 3 plus #5 & #7.

What a fantastic idea! I have a toddler and we are constantly wiping/washing hands. I use washcloths at home for his cleanup, but when we are on the go, people towels sounds like a great option instead of disposable towels or wipes. I completed all 7 things so I hope I win! Thanks for a great contest!
