Travel log: Toronto takes the lead of favorite vegan city

I struggled for many weeks to find where I wanted to visit in May. My birthday was on the 13th and I ached to be amongst friends rather than be in a city all alone (per usual when you solo travel the world). Never having been to Canada, I decided Toronto would be perfect. I had friends there, many who I met years ago at conferences/vegfests and kept up online friendships with for years. Nicole (A Dash of Compassion) kindly let me crash with her and I didn’t have to spend my birthday alone.… Read more

Travel log: Lake Atitlan, Guatemala and it’s Traditions

The first week of March I took Spanish classes in San Pedro at Casa Rosario. I got to know the traditional Guatemala way of life through many conversations with my teacher and doing a homestay with a local family. It was so interesting, this exchange, where I learned about their religion, family, traditions, diet, work, income, common activities in San Pedro, and more. I couldn’t have been more different than them. Like the complete opposite. Lake Atitlan is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited.… Read more

Vegan Street Fair is a vegan daydream

When I saw my friends talking about Vegan Street Fair (VSF) on Facebook and Instagram I looked up flights to Los Angeles. I lived there for 5 years so many of my closest friends still reside there so I welcome a trip to visit them. I was shocked to see flights were under $150 round trip! My flight was bought and off I went a few days before the fair to catch up with friends. I had the most beautiful time in Ojai for a day and my friend showed me all the beauty there: hot springs, hiking amongst the orange groves above the city, eating at the Farmer and the Cook, and watching the sunset at Meditation Mount.… Read more

Mexico City is a vegan mecca!

As we vegans like to do, every time I travel to a new country I’m planning my days around where I will eat. I research and star all the vegan options I can find from the internet and HappyCow on Google Maps. Pro Tip: Did you know you can see all your starred places on Google Maps even when you don’t have internet? It’s the best! As soon as I arrived into the city I was ready to eat. I walked around to a few places I found on Google Maps that ended up not being closed.… Read more

Travel log: I Heart Mexico City

I was going to do this post including food but decided it needed it’s own post! When I visited Mexico City in February I kind of fell in love. The weather was just perfect at that time; cool nights and mornings, with a nice sunny 70 degrees during the day. I love wearing layers and not sweating while hustling around town so this trip was a dream come true. I only spent 4 days there and felt like I could have stayed many months.… Read more

Travel log: Colombia & it’s many struggles

In November, I started my journey to Colombia in Medellin. Medellin, as the 2nd largest city in Colombia, is breathtaking. This bustling metroplex is buried in a valley so you are surrounded 360 degrees by city views. I think the Paisas (local people to this area) do not understand the beauty that engulfs them every single day. But maybe they do for the torrid past of Medellin is buried deep in their hearts and minds. In general, people of Medellin are kind and helpful.… Read more
