Where my new passion lies….

As you probably know I’ve gotten really into fitness. For me it’s all connected though. The way you eat, the people you surround yourself with, even the music you listen to and the articles you read all influence your overall well-being. The part that was missing from my life was exercise, more specifically lifting weights.

I discovered many months ago while I was training for my second triathlon (did I even mention here that I got 3rd in my age group?) that I felt I was meant to lift heavy sh*t. When I stopped lifting weights I missed it; craved it even. After I finished the triathlon I hit the gym with a new mission of seeing how much muscle mass I could put on. It’s been 5 weeks now and a really fun and mind-bending process. The stage of muscle building is called “bulking”. You eat more than your maintenance calories and you lift heavy while reducing your cardio. This allows the muscle to grow, by feeding it and not doing anything that would eat away at it. I put on 5lbs in the first 4 weeks. My body was doing well on bulking! But my mind is not. It’s a strange process to watch your body transform while none of your clothes fit anymore and the scale creeps up. In a way it is also freeing to be able to basically eat anything and everything. My main inspiration is to show that you can build muscle and be strong on a vegan diet.

In this process of body transformation I have lost all inspiration to create in the kitchen. My eating habits have become a necessity to eat as much as possible. Meals are most times boring consisting of a grain, protein, and veggies (if you follow me on Instagram you can see what I’m eating). So basically I’m not creating amazing, creative things to share with you on my blog. And I feel like a bad person for not blogging.

But I do feel good about a new edition to my skill set! I have officially signed up to get my personal training certificate through NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine), which is one of the most prestige certifications to get. I start their 9 week online training course TODAY. The more I thought about it the more it made sense to turn my new passion into a career. And it’s the perfect collaboration to the food coaching I already do and have been going for the last 9 years.

So while I may not be sharing a ton of recipes on this blog I do have a lot of stuff I’d like to talk about. My most popular blogs have been the ones where I share a perspective on something that’s important, or just rant and rave, or the FAQ posts that answer one of your burning questions. My recipe posts aren’t as popular as those so I’d like to start sharing more of my thoughts.

Would you like to see more of those posts?

I hope you don’t go anywhere! And let me know what kinds of things you would like to see from me on this blog. It will give me motivation to keep writing and giving you the kind of content you really want to see (and that is helpful to you!).

    1. Yay plant power baby!! I can’t believe how much it’s changed my life and health to start lifting. And you don’t have to go as hard and intense as me. Every women should be doing some weight training 3x a week for bone health alone, not to mention how badass it is to be stronger 🙂

  3. You are really looking good. Just being honest, I had thought exercise was an area you could give some attention, and here you are putting in the hard work. Its inspiring to see how you’ve focused in on it and shown the same sort of passion and drive for exercise as you have for healthy food. Truly, I’m impressed. Your efforts to better yourself, to inspire us to better ourselves, have not gone unnoticed.
